Embedded Systems Conference
May 2011 at the San Jose Convention Center
Express Logic demonstrated its products during the 3-day exhibit at the Embedded Systems Conference. Express Logic thrilled the crowd with an entertaining exhibition of illusions performed by Tim Buhé and his talented assistants, Erin and Pam. Crowds flocked to the Express Logic booth every hour to hear and see the "magic" of Express Logic's ThreadX, StackX, BenchX, TraceX, FileX, NetX, PrismX, USBX, and Certification Pack products. Your Express Logic ESC 2011 Booth Staff demonstrated our products and was pleased to meet many of you at the show. We look forward to meeting your RTOS needs in the future!
At the end of each magic show, Express Logic conducted a drawing for prizes. A total of 16 all-in-one Hewlett-Packard printers, 16 Real-Time Embedded Multithreading books, and 14 limousine passes were given away.

Express Logic and IAR Systems Deliver Advanced Execution Profiling to Aid
Real-Time System Analysis
IAR Embedded Workbench® now displays
ThreadX®-captured profiling information
Express Logic, Inc., announced the availability of Execution Profiling information with IAR Embedded Workbench. Developers need as much information as possible to correctly design and implement applications for commercial systems. That information must be presented in a clear, simple, and easy-to-understand form for it to be useful.
Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS optionally collects and processes a variety of run-time statistics, including the following:
-
CPU execution percentage of each application thread
-
CPU execution percentage of total interrupt processing
-
CPU idle time percentage
-
Total number of thread preemptions, suspensions, and priority inversions
-
Total number of mutex, semaphore, and event flag puts, gets, and sets
-
Total number of messages sent/received
-
Total number of memory allocations, deallocations, fragments, merges, etc.
-
Total timer activations and expirations

Express Logic Introduces Memory-Protected Application Modules for ThreadX® RTOS
Solution secures high reliability, low overhead,
and new functionality
Express Logic, Inc., announced the introduction of ThreadX® RTOS Memory Protection for downloadable application modules. Downloadable application modules, introduced earlier this year, enable ThreadX-based applications to execute functions dynamically loaded from local mass storage or a network. Memory protection for these modules adds a level of safety and security that enables developers to protect other modules and the ThreadX kernel itself against unintended damage from errant external access.
Express Logic achieves memory protection with minimal software or hardware overhead by using the processor’s Memory Protection Unit (MPU) or Memory Management Unit (MMU) and no virtual address space. Any code within a particular module that attempts to access memory outside that module is prevented from making that access, and a system fault is generated. The RTOS then transfers control to an error handler that the application sets up to deal with the error. The Module might then be disabled while allowing the rest of the system to continue operation, send an error message to an operator, or halt the system to prevent further damage.

AMD Embedded G-Series Platform Gets
Real-Time Operating System Support
from Express Logic
ThreadX® RTOS provides precise software timing
for the AMD Embedded G-Series platform
AMD announced embedded software provider Express Logic has brought its industry-leading ThreadX real-time operating system (RTOS) to the AMD Embedded G-Series platform. The AMD Embedded G-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) offers an advanced, low-power, multi-core x86 CPU and a discrete-class DirectX®-11-capable GPU on a single, small-footprint die. This family of APUs was created expressly for the requirements of embedded systems, many of which require the precise, deterministic timing of an RTOS.

ThreadX® RTOS Deployments
Surpass One Billion
Express Logic, Inc., announced that the number of ThreadX-based product deployments now totals more than 1 billion units. Led by use of ThreadX in wireless networking SoCs and inkjet and all-in-one printers, ThreadX consistently ranks among the most widely deployed operating systems for mobile and embedded devices.
