Express Logic and IAR Systems team up to deliver development solutions for commercial applications in consumer, medical, and industrial devices
Embedded World, Nuremberg, Germany (March 02, 2010)
Express Logic, Inc., a worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), and IAR Systems, a leading provider of software tools for embedded systems, today announced a commercial-grade integration for developers of serious applications. The integration combines Express Logic’s THREADX® RTOS and IAR Embedded Workbench® IDE in a form that is easily used out-of-the box by developers of embedded applications. Both Express Logic and IAR Systems products support most popular 32-bit architectures, including ARM’s ARM7, ARM9 and Cortex-M3, Freescale’s ColdFire, NEC’s V850, and Renesas’s H8. Now, developers using those processors can benefit from the seamless integration of THREADX and IAR Embedded Workbench, enabling them to bring products to market faster and easier than ever before.
Express Logic’s THREADX RTOS is structured for use with IAR’s Embedded Workbench IDE in a source code project. Developers can immediately compile and build the RTOS library and link it with application code using its services. IAR’s Embedded Workbench provides all the editing, compilation, debugging, and version control facilities needed to support embedded development. In addition, IAR Embedded Workbench now includes RTOS kernel awareness for THREADX, which gives developers a view of all kernel objects and application threads and enables them to set thread-specific breakpoints. THREADX is provided with a quick-start demo application, with full source code, that developers can use to familiarize themselves with its features and mechanisms. A full list of the IAR Kickstart kits supported by THREADX can be found here: http://www.iar.com/kits.
“Many of our THREADX customers use IAR’s Embedded Workbench as their preferred development environment,” said William E,. Lamie, President of Express Logic. “Now, developers using Freescale’s ColdeFire can also enjoy the benefits of the THREADX-IAR combination and speed their products to market faster.”
“THREADX RTOS and IAR Embedded Workbench complement each other extremely well and suit the development of a broad range of consumer and industrial applications,” commented Fredrik Medin, Marketing Director, IAR Systems. “To be successful in these markets, designs need to be introduced as quickly as possible and the combination of our products greatly aid that process.”
Express Logic’s THREADX RTOS is a small-footprint, easy-to-use, priority-based, preemptive scheduling hard real-time RTOS that has been used in over 750 million electronic products in consumer electronics, medical devices, industrial automation, and networking applications. THREADX is extremely fast, and responsive to real-time events. THREADX is available with validation artifacts for IEC, DO-178B/ED-12b, EUROCAE, and USFDA (CDRH) certification.
IAR Embedded Workbench is a set of highly sophisticated and easy-to-use development tools. It incorporates IAR C/C++ Compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and debugger combined in an integrated development environment (IDE) for programming embedded applications.
